World premiere Documentary by Nigel Baines – The Life and music of Boyd McDonald
Four years in the making, From the City of Bridges to the City of Lights traces the
fascinating, 9-decade-long musical journey of Boyd McDonald – one of Canada’s most
prolific, talented and loved pianists/composers – from rural Saskatchewan to the great
concert halls of Europe – and the important contributions he has made to the New
Music, Classical and Early Music scenes in Canada.
To find out how, against all the odds, a farm boy and piano prodigy from Saskatchewan
came to study at the legendary music teacher Nadia Boulanger in Paris and about the
opera he is currently writing, you will just have to attend the NUMUS World Premiere of
this much anticipated film about the life and music of the inspiring and unstoppable
Boyd McDonald.
Featuring performances by Boyd McDonald, Carolyn Arnason, Guy Few, Christine
Vanderkooy, Ben Bolt Martin, Charmaine Fopoussi, Joseph Petric and the Penderecki
String Quartet.
