Discover how Irish dance and music evolved as they crossed the Atlantic, blending with local culture to create a distinct style known for its lively footwork and dynamic rhythms. Through performances and storytelling, you will experience the deep connection between Irish step dancing and the vibrant dance traditions of Canada.
Featuring champion Canadian Step dancer, the McCairley Sisters, and old-style Irish step dancer and scholar, Marjorie Hopkins, along with Canadian Master Fiddler, Anna Smilek – this evening promises to be a vibrant celebration of rhythm, tradition, and the deep connections between Irish step dancing, Ottawa Valley step dance, and fiddle music. Expect an evening filled with dynamic performances, rich storytelling, and the infectious energy of live music that brings these traditions to life – and maybe even a chance for you to try a few steps.
